A high-level delegation from the Jharkhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by State President Aditya Sahu and Opposition leader Babulal Marandi, convened with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The primary agenda of the meeting was to discuss various pressing issues concerning Jharkhand, with a significant focus on the ongoing student protests and alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
Mr. Marandi later took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the meeting, stating that a "detailed discussion was held on various important issues related to Jharkhand," and that "guidance along with necessary directions were received from Home Minister Amit Shah Ji." The delegation was a strong representation of the party's state leadership, also including former Chief Ministers Arjun Munda, Raghubar Das, and Champai Soren, as well as former State presidents Ravindra Rai and Deepak Prakash, and Organisation General Secretary Karmveer Singh.
Party sources revealed that during the meeting, all BJP leaders conveyed their unequivocal support for the student agitation gripping Jharkhand. They emphasized their commitment to championing the students' cause, not only through public demonstrations on the streets but also by raising the issue vigorously on the floor of the legislature. The core concern revolves around alleged irregularities in various state recruitment examinations.
A leader present at the meeting highlighted the BJP's role, stating, "We told Amit Shah ji that, due to our continuous effort by putting pressure on the Hemant Soren government, the government agreed to cancel all those examinations which were under suspicion." This assertion underscores the BJP's claim of directly influencing the state government's decision to scrap 22 recruitment exams, a move that followed intense pressure from student bodies like the JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch, which subsequently called off its stir.
Furthermore, Mr. Marandi has formally written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, reiterating the demand for an impartial Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the irregularities surrounding the cancelled and controversial examinations. This demand signals a sustained push from the opposition for a thorough investigation into the alleged malpractices, aiming to ensure transparency and justice for the affected students.
