A seven-year-old girl was raped and murdered by her neighbour in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh. Authorities say the body was recovered from a drum inside the accused's house after CCTV footage confirmed the crime, and police launched a thorough investigation.
The girl's family reported she went missing around 4 pm on Monday. The DIG said the death involved drowning with signs of sexual assault. The accused lived opposite the girl's home.
Crowds gathered, police deployed heavy security, and some individuals with political motives reportedly fanned anger and even attacked family members of the victim. Additional forces were deployed to keep the peace while the investigation continues. Charges include murder, rape, and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
In a troubling development, the prime accused was later found dead under suspicious conditions; his body was recovered from a village tank and shifted for post-mortem.
Authorities have urged calm and are continuing the probe.
