Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently visited Washington D.C. to inspect several of his ongoing construction projects. During his tour, he made a significant announcement: the iconic National Mall reflecting pool is now “in full use” after previously sustaining damage, marking a positive update for the nation's capital.
A major highlight of his announcements concerns the East Potomac Golf Links. Trump revealed that redevelopment work on this public golf course is set to commence in September. His vision is ambitious, promising to transform it into "one of the Greatest Golf Courses anywhere in the World." Crucially, he emphasized that this world-class facility will remain accessible to the public and is designed to host prestigious events such as The U.S. Open, The Ryder Cup, and The PGA Championship. Trump toured the site alongside Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, various aides, and renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio and his son Gavin Fazio, underscoring the scale of the project.
However, the golf course redevelopment is not without its challenges. The project is currently facing a lawsuit in U.S. District Court. Adding to the concerns, Trump himself noted issues with the grass and sprinkler system. More significantly, debris from the demolition of the White House East Wing has reportedly been dumped on the grounds. The National Park Service confirmed last month that this debris tested positive for lead, chromium, and other toxic metals, raising environmental and health questions. Despite these issues, Trump stated that construction is slated to begin on September 1st.
Beyond the golf course, the former president also inspected updates to Lafayette Park, situated on the north side of the White House. His motorcade also drove around the area where he reportedly plans to build a triumphal arch, hinting at further large-scale projects for the capital. These updates reflect Trump's continued interest in and influence on the landscape of Washington D.C.
