Meta unveils Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses for athletes
Meta debuts Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses at Connect 2025 for runners, cyclists and athletes, with a single front lens, 3K video, AI prompts, and IP67 durability.
At Meta Connect 2025 on Wednesday, Meta unveiled its Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses aimed at athletes such as runners and cyclists. The glasses retail for $499 and are set to launch on October 21. They feature a large unified front lens, replacing the dual-camera setup used in previous Meta glasses and in the Oakley Meta HSTN model.
The Vanguard can capture video in up to 3K resolution and includes a 12-megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide-angle lens. A programmable button lets users trigger a custom AI prompt via the Meta AI app, and all buttons are located underneath to make helmet use easier during workouts. Battery life reaches up to nine hours, or up to six hours of continuous music playback. A charging case provides an additional 36 hours of charge on the go, and
Meta notes users can quickly recharge to 50% in 20 minutes via the case. Open-ear speakers are six decibels louder than the Oakley Meta HSTN, described as the most powerful speakers yet on any of Meta’s glasses, while a five-microphone array is optimized to reduce wind noise during calls, messaging, or voice interactions with Meta AI.
The Vanguard glasses carry an IP67 dust and water resistance rating for use during intense workouts and feature a wraparound design with Oakley PRIZM Lens technology to block sun, wind, and dust.
