Meesho IPO Rally: Bengaluru-based platform doubles shares, market cap tops Rs 1 lakh crore
Meesho’s stock surges after its IPO, doubling from the issue price and pushing market cap above Rs 1 lakh crore as investors praise its Bharat-focused growth and community-driven model.
Meesho has sprinted ahead since its December debut, delivering a dramatic 110% rise over six trading sessions and turning heads across the Indian market. The Bengaluru-based e-commerce platform, which floated on the market on December 10, rose to a high of Rs 233.50 in the latest session, well above its IPO price of Rs 111. In the process, its market capitalization crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore milestone for the first time, underscoring the fervor around local consumer platforms that are reshaping the Indian digital economy.
Investors and market watchers have cited strong demand following UBS’s initiation of coverage with a Buy rating and a target price of Rs 220 per share as a key driver behind Meesho’s latest surge. The stock had debuted at Rs 162.50 on the NSE, a premium of about 46.4% to the issue price, signaling robust appetite for Indian e-commerce and social commerce plays that connect small sellers with buyers in Bharat.
The rally comes as Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com, publicly lauds Meesho for its quiet win in India while rivals like Amazon and Flipkart intensify their push in the same market. “Watching Meesho quietly win in Bharat while Amazon and Flipkart throw everything they have at India, is a good reminder. Distribution & local beats generic brute force,” he wrote, adding that India doesn’t just consume platforms — it reshapes them. Mittal also highlighted the potential for local AI initiatives, mentioning experiments with local GPTs such as Puch AI and emphasizing how very Indian, colloquial use cases can outpace global models.
The broader takeaway from the rally is a growing investor confidence in Indian consumer platforms that blend social commerce with localized logistics and AI-driven personalization. Meesho’s rise reinforces the narrative that Indian tech firms are not merely competing for scale, but for deeper integration into everyday Bharat life, from informal sellers to neighborhood shoppers. As one of the market’s standout IPOs this year, Meesho’s performance may set a benchmark for future listings in the country’s thriving tech-enabled retail space.
