Tirupati Protests Erupt Over Rambabu's Remarks on AP CM Naidu

The NDA alliance leaders and cadre staged a demonstration across Rayalaseema on Sunday, with protests in Tirupati at Garuda Circle in Alipiri and at Ambedkar Circle, led by MLA Arani Srinivasulu and Deputy Mayor R.C. Munikrishna, along with TUDA chairman C. Divakar Reddy, SAAP chairman A. Ravi Naidu and former MLA M. Sugunamma. The demonstrators denounced the remarks against Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu as an unparliamentary comment that betrays the YSRCP’s culture. "The YSRCP leaders have a strong feeling that making abusive comments against the political opponents only can highlight them in the eyes of their party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy," said Divakar Reddy. "While the government is bent on bringing in development and taking welfare schemes to the reach of the public, the politically unemployed YSRCP is leaving no opportunity to trigger trouble," added Munikrishna. In Chandragiri, TDP MLA Pulivarthi Nani led a demonstration condemning the attack, noting that the discipline nurtured by the party’s leadership should guide responses appropriately.

Separately, the controversy has also taken a legal turn as Ambati Rambabu, a YSRCP leader, was detained in connection with alleged derogatory remarks about the Chief Minister and alleged disruption of police duties, spending around 19 hours in custody before release. The incident underscores rising political tempers in the state amid ongoing tensions between the ruling party and its opposition allies.

The protests and the arrest illustrate how rhetoric is turning into direct political confrontation across Andhra Pradesh, with both sides signaling that they will not shy away from publicly challenging each other’s leaders. As the political landscape heats up, observers say this episode could set the tone for how disagreements are managed on the street and in the corridors of power.
