Three women were injured in a knife attack on Paris Metro Line 3 Friday afternoon. The assaults took place at Arts-et-Métiers, République, and Opéra stations between 4:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., according to transit officials. All three victims sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene or at nearby hospitals. Passengers reported a chaotic scene as the line was paused briefly while security teams responded.
Police later identified the suspect as a man described as mentally unstable and of Malian origin. He fled after the attacks but was arrested at his home in Sarcelles, a northern suburb of Paris. Authorities have ruled out terrorism and said the investigation will focus on motive, the suspect’s state of mind, and any possible connections to other incidents.
The incidents prompted a security response along Line 3, which links several central stations near the Marais district. Metro service was disrupted briefly as officers secured the area, and officials urged passengers to remain vigilant. RATP officials said service resumed with additional patrols in the area to reassure riders.
With investigators continuing to piece together the sequence of events, the case has renewed questions about safety on the city’s public transport network. Police stress there is no evidence of a wider threat, and the investigation will continue as more details emerge.
