Taylor & Dakota's SNL Style: Besties, Not Matchy-Matchy!
Taylor Swift made a surprise SNL appearance with host Dakota Johnson, showcasing their unique bestie style. Discover how these friends rocked two very different mini-dresses and their heartwarming on-stage banter!
Taylor Swift surprised audiences with a special appearance during Dakota Johnson's “Saturday Night Live” opening monologue this past weekend, once again putting their friendship in the spotlight. Just a week after the duo showcased deliberate twinning looks in Swift's “Patient Zero” music video, their SNL reunion proved that real bestie style doesn't need to be matchy-matchy.
Johnson, hosting SNL for the third time, reflected on her life since her last appearance, crediting friends like Swift for getting her through. She playfully introduced Swift as her “literal therapist,” to which Swift jokingly clarified that Johnson mostly just shows up at her house weekly and eventually needs to be driven home by security. The lighthearted banter set a fun tone for their on-screen reunion.
Fashion-wise, the friends offered strikingly different, yet equally glamorous, looks.
Johnson, styled by Kate Young, embodied a bold, 2013-esque bombshell in a scarlet latex Versace mini dress, paired with Giuseppe Zanotti mules. Her dazzling accessories included Roberto Coin diamonds and rubies, notably a Wide Cobra Collar and a Cento Circle of Life ring, adding serious wattage to her high-shine ensemble.
Swift, on the other hand, opted for a more autumnal, “Folklore”-inspired vibe. She wore a stylish Simkhai off-the-shoulder Wells plaid minidress, cinched with a Saint Laurent Cassandre chain belt, and grounded her look with Burberry's knee-high Pillar leather boots. Her jewelry included Dana Rebecca Designs hoops and her Cartier Unlimited bracelet, along with her custom antique engagement ring and wedding band.
Notably, her partner Travis Kelce was not in the audience. The contrast was particularly interesting given their recent coordinated looks in the “Patient Zero” video, where they appeared in identical Toteme leather coats and matching separates. Johnson had also joined Swift at the VMAs to present her with the inaugural Artist Director Honors before the video's premiere.
Their SNL appearance, however, beautifully highlighted their individual fashion identities: Johnson's preference for high-octane eveningwear and Swift's polished, feminine aesthetic.
Throughout the show, Johnson continued to impress with her sartorial choices, including a strapless plunging Saint Laurent mini dress and a eucalyptus-toned silk top and matching mini skirt by rising designer Yana Matkivski.
Ultimately, their SNL moment served as a fashionable reminder that the best part of getting dressed with your best friend can sometimes be celebrating your unique styles.
