A record number of British performers are headed for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, with Oasis, Iron Maiden and Sade among those voted in. The list also includes Joy Division and New Order treated as one act, along with Phil Collins and Billy Idol. In the Hall’s 40-year history, the previous high for British inductees in a single year was five, set in 2019 when Radiohead, The Cure, Def Leppard, Roxy Music and The Zombies were honoured. As recently as 2021 there were no British inductees at all. The 2026 honorees were announced during an episode of American Idol, presented by Ryan Seacrest and Lionel Richie, who himself was inducted into the Hall in 2022 for his solo work, though his band The Commodores have never made it in.
