AP teacher suspended for forcing students to massage her legs in class

SRIKAKULAM, Andhra Pradesh, A schoolteacher, Y. Sujatha, was suspended indefinitely after a video surfaced showing her directing two students to massage her legs during class. The incident took place at a tribal government school in Bandapalli village of Meliyaputti mandal in Srikakulam district, and the footage quickly drew sharp criticism from residents and education observers alike for the conduct seen in the classroom.

The episode has raised concerns about classroom discipline and the safeguarding of students in tribal education settings, and authorities moved to address the matter swiftly after the video circulated online.

An official from the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Seethampeta Project Office, Pawar Swapnil Jagannath, issued the suspension order in line with the Andhra Pradesh Civil Services Rules-1991. The order cites several grounds for the action: derogatory conduct towards students, use of a mobile phone during class hours, and sitting in an improper posture.

Specifically, it notes that Sujatha stretched her legs and directed students to massage them, actions described as the immediate reasons for her suspension from the job. The timing of the suspension, following the viral footage, underscored the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the incident. She has been directed not to leave the headquarters until the inquiry into the incident is completed.
