Columbus police held a news conference on Wednesday to announce the arrest of Michael McKee, 39, who is charged with murdering Monique Tepe and her husband Spencer Tepe. A search of McKee's property yielded multiple weapons, including the one investigators believe was used in the slayings, according to officials. Police said the weapon matches the firearm believed to have been used in the crime and that the investigation is still in its early stages. Chief Elaine Bryant emphasized that authorities are sharing limited details to avoid jeopardizing the case, as prosecutors build their case against McKee. McKee was arrested on January 10 by federal agents near his medical office in Rockford, Illinois, about 80 miles west of Chicago, and booked into the Winnebago County Jail for extradition to Ohio. Columbus authorities noted that the arrest took place roughly 450 miles from the crime scene. A separate report indicated that surveillance footage outside the Ohio dentist’s house captured a man identified by police as the ex-husband, Michael David McKee, in connection with the domestic-violence-related attack. Family members say Monique Tepe had feared her ex-husband, and the couple’s killings occurred on December 30. The investigation remains active as authorities pursue additional leads and gather evidence for the forthcoming prosecution.
