Injury Blow for Harshit Rana, Bumrah Fit for India's Asian Games & Afghanistan T20s!

In a significant development for Indian cricket, young pacer Harshit Rana has once again been sidelined due to a fresh injury, ruling him out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the prestigious Asian Games in Japan. This setback marks another challenging period for Rana, who has been battling recurring injury woes, impacting his return to the national squad.

His place in both squads will now be taken by Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur. While Rana's absence is a blow, there's good news for Indian fans as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has received a clean bill of health. Alongside Bumrah, all-rounders Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy have also been declared fit by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), making them available for selection in the T20I squad.

This comes as a major relief, particularly with Bumrah's return, strengthening India's bowling attack.

Harshit Rana's recent injury history has been unfortunate.

Earlier this year, a hamstring tear kept him out of India's T20 World Cup campaign and subsequently the entire IPL 2026 season.

After making a comeback during the tours to Ireland and England, he suffered another hamstring injury, which sidelined him from the Zimbabwe tour. This latest injury occurred during mandatory fitness clearance tests at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, dashing his hopes for the Afghanistan series and the Asian Games. Yash Thakur, who had previously replaced Rana on the Zimbabwe tour, impressed with four wickets in two T20I matches.

His consistent performance has now earned him another call-up, stepping into the shoes of the injured Rana. The Indian team is gearing up for a busy schedule, starting with the first of three T20Is against Afghanistan in Delhi this Saturday. Following this, they will play a one-off T20I against Japan before heading into the Asian Games quarter-finals on September 28, where they will defend their gold medal.

The updated squad for the Afghanistan T20Is includes key players like Shreyas Iyer (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma (VC), Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Yash Thakur.

The Asian Games squad largely mirrors this, with Shreyas Iyer leading the side.

The focus will now be on these players to perform well and secure victories in the upcoming tournaments, especially with the return of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
