AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on March 28, 2026 unveiled eleven candidates for the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, highlighting a mix of veterans and controversial figures in a bid to strengthen the party’s foothold. The slate includes two former ministers and three former MLAs who were disqualified nine years ago for backing Dhinakaran when he challenged AIADMK leadership. C. Shanmugavelu from Madathukulam and G. Senthamizhan from Saidapet are listed among the former ministers who briefly held portfolios in the post-2011 AIADMK era. The disqualified MLAs named are K. Kathirkamu (Theni), R. Sundararaj (Ottapidaram), and T.A. Elumalai (Poonamallee). M. Rajasekaran, who represented Thottiam during 2006-11, has been nominated for Tiruchi (West). The remaining five candidates are S. Kamaraj (Mannargudi); V. Karthikeyan (Thiruvaiyaru); V. Pandi (Karaikudi); A. Gnanasekar (Tirupattur); and R. Isakkimuthu (Nanguneri). The lineup underscores AMMK’s strategy of fielding veterans with loyalty links and contested histories as it gears up for the electoral battle.
