A car blast near Delhi's Red Fort killed ten people and prompted the temporary closure of Lal Quila Metro station as authorities tightened security across the area. Police have confirmed that the man behind the wheel at the time of the explosion was Dr Umar Nabi, with forensic DNA testing matching his biological sample to that of his mother.
Investigators say intelligence agencies have uncovered a larger terror conspiracy connected to the attack. The suspects allegedly planned to prepare about 32 old vehicles with explosives to carry out coordinated strikes across multiple locations. If verified, the plot would reveal a broader network and a far-reaching danger beyond a single blast.
Initial findings show that after attempts to modify an i20 and an EcoSport for potential use, investigators learned that work had begun on 32 additional old vehicles that could be fitted with explosives. Authorities are examining whether other vehicles are being readied and whether additional targets were in mind as the investigation expands.
Officials note that the driver’s leg was trapped between the steering wheel and the accelerator at the time of the blast, a detail that complicated rescue and investigation efforts. There are also indications of a possible link to Al-Falah University in Faridabad, a connection that will be explored as investigators press forward with the case.
