Ernest W. Baker is quickly becoming a highlight on the Paris men’s fashion schedule, and their latest Spring 2027 menswear show proved why. Held in a striking white-carpeted hall in Belleville, this sophomore collection from the Porto-based label showcased the sophisticated and cinematic vision of designers Reid Baker and Inês Amorim, marking them as a duo with immense potential.
The couple, visibly emotional backstage, expressed their commitment to high standards and continuously elevating their aesthetic. “Hopefully we executed something powerful,” said Baker, and indeed, the collection was a masterclass in power dressing. It opened with impeccably sharp tailoring and an elegant Dalmatian print on skirts and blouses, evoking a sense of 80s Wall Street chic with a Cruella de Vil twist. However, the true inspiration stemmed from the much cooler 1982 cult classic, Smithereens.
This cinematic influence was evident in the bold, punky checks woven throughout the collection, all impeccably finished with sleek leather driving gloves and dramatic wraparound statement sunglasses. The fabric development and tailoring were harmoniously balanced; sparse stripes of Swarovski crystals swirled around two black-suited looks, glittering deliciously with every movement, while another black cotton ensemble possessed a sheen so rich it could have been mistaken for leather.
Baker articulated the brand’s core philosophy: “We’re always thinking about how to blend European elegance with American rawness so it’s not overly classic or overly grungy. We can have a nice mix to break both and balance both, I think.” This ethos was perfectly encapsulated in one standout look that reimagined a leather biker jacket and trousers as sophisticated black tie. “We loved how simple it was to have this motorcycle jacket but then breaking it with the bow tie,” Baker explained. “It’s very Ernest.” A collection that was not just stylish, but earnest in its innovative approach.
