Direct London to Zurich Rail Link Could Launch in the 2030s
Eurostar, SBB and SNCF Voyageurs sign an MOU to explore a direct London–Zurich (and London–Geneva) rail connection, with feasibility eyed in the 2030s.
Eurostar, SBB and SNCF Voyageurs have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a direct rail connection between the United Kingdom and Switzerland for the first time. The potential route would see trains run directly from London to Zurich, with London to Geneva likely around five and a half to six hours. Currently, travelers can already take Eurostar to Paris and transfer to a TGV Lyria to Zurich, a journey just under seven and a half hours. The project would pass through France and would require entry formalities, infrastructure upgrades and intergovernmental agreements before moving forward. Eurostar described the development as a milestone in long-term planning and noted that the project could be feasible as early as the 2030s.
In other European rail news, a Prague-Copenhagen service launched recently by Czech Railways is operating with a temporary detour due to track closures in Germany, starting with two trains per day and a departure from Prague Main Station at 6:31am, arriving in Copenhagen at 7:38pm. The service is aimed at expanding connections between central European capitals despite the ongoing network adjustments.
