Eurovision launches first Asia edition with Bangkok finale
Eurovision expands into Asia with ten participating broadcasters, culminating in a Bangkok-hosted grand final later this year.
Eurovision is expanding into Asia for the first time, with broadcasters from ten countries including South Korea, Thailand and the Philippines confirmed to participate. The plan starts with national selections in each country, before a grand final staged in Bangkok and broadcast live on 14 November. The move comes as 2026 marks the contest's 70th anniversary, and organizers say opening this chapter with Asia reflects a vibrant region rich in culture, creativity and talent.
The Asia edition aims to mirror Eurovision's global appeal, leveraging Asia's thriving music markets, soaring social media engagement, and a younger audience fond of K‑pop and karaoke. The format promises original pop music from across the region and a chance for new artists to reach a worldwide audience.
This is not Eurovision's first bid to go beyond its core contests. In 2022, the American Song Contest was launched in the United States, but that effort did not yield lasting viewership. Organisers hope the Asian spin-off will resonate more widely, especially in a region where live music and fan communities are deeply active.
Social media chatter already buzzes about which countries will throw their hats in the ring, with fans debating why big markets such as China and Japan are not yet involved. Bangkok is positioned as the event's inaugural host city, signaling a fresh direction for Eurovision while keeping fans eager for the performances to come.
