Prince Harry's highly anticipated return to the UK has taken an unexpected turn. The Duke of Sussex will not be staying at Buckingham Palace or any other royal residence, as an offer for accommodation was reportedly withdrawn "at the last moment."
Initially, the Duke had accepted an invitation to stay at a royal residence and had even made alternative security arrangements over the weekend after the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) decided not to provide security for his family. However, a spokesperson for Prince Harry confirmed that the offer was subsequently revoked.
The reason cited for the withdrawal was the impending judgment in his case against the publisher of the Daily Mail, Associated Newspapers Limited, which is due on Tuesday. This decision has caused disappointment, especially since, according to Harry's spokesperson, Buckingham Palace was already aware of the judgment since last Thursday.
The spokesperson expressed bewilderment, stating, "It is therefore unclear why, having formally accepted the accommodation offer, it has now been withdrawn at the last moment." This development means that Prince Harry will now be staying in private accommodation for the entirety of his visit to England, sidestepping any official royal dwelling.
