Global Disruption: Boston Scientific Hit by Major Cyberattack!

Medical device powerhouse Boston Scientific is currently grappling with a “global disruption” to its operations following a cyberattack. The company, known for producing vital medical implants such as pacemakers and defibrillators, disclosed the incident in a federal regulatory filing on Wednesday, marking it as the latest health technology giant to face such a sophisticated assault in recent weeks.

The Massachusetts-based firm confirmed in its filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that its IT systems and critical business applications began experiencing “disruptions and limitations of access” on Tuesday.

This attack has significantly hampered Boston Scientific's ability to ship and process orders, though the full extent of the disruption, particularly concerning customers with existing medical devices and implants, remains unclear.

The company's spokesperson declined to elaborate on whether patients are directly affected or what precautionary steps they should take.

This cyber incident affects a company that serves an estimated 48 million patients annually. The investigation into the attack is ongoing, and a timeline for restoring full system functionality has not yet been established. While the cause of the cyberattack is still under wraps, reports from Ireland indicated that thousands of Boston Scientific staff in Cork were sent home after network communications were cut.

Earlier, Iranian-backed hackers were implicated in a cyberattack against U.S. medical device maker Stryker, which resulted in the remote wiping of tens of thousands of employee devices.
