Delhi witnessed a dramatic exchange of fire in the early hours of Monday as police apprehended two alleged hitmen from the Rashid Cablewala gang following an intense shootout in the Usmanpur area. The encounter saw a total of 28 bullets exchanged between the police team and the suspects.
The two alleged hitmen, identified as Alu Jaseem and Mohammad Kaif, both 23-year-olds from northeast Delhi
s Welcome area, were reportedly involved in a recent incident where multiple bullets were fired at a businessman
s house in Bhajanpura. This attack was linked to an extortion demand.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Rahul Alwal, the investigation began after five bullets were fired at the businessman"s residence on October 2. It was discovered that the businessman had received extortion calls but had not reported them to the police. Through technical investigation and field intelligence, Jaseem and Kaif were identified as the culprits.
On Sunday night, the special staff team received a tip-off about the suspects" presence in Usmanpur. A trap was laid, and officers confronted the duo, ordering them to surrender. Instead, the two men drew their firearms and opened fire on the police party, discharging 12 rounds.
In a tense moment, bullets fired by the suspects struck the bulletproof vests of a sub-inspector and a head constable. Fortunately, both officers escaped unhurt thanks to their protective gear.
The police team returned fire, discharging 16 rounds.
Both suspects sustained bullet injuries to their left legs during the exchange and were subsequently admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Delhi Police to curb gang-related activities and protect citizens from extortion.
