A horrific incident has sent shockwaves through Ghaziabad, specifically the Modinagar area, where a 32-year-old man allegedly shot his 55-year-old father to death. The tragic event, which unfolded on Wednesday night, was reportedly triggered by a heated argument involving the son's drunken state and a long-standing property dispute worth a staggering Rs 150 crore.
According to police reports, the deceased, identified as Hariom, a farmer from Budana village, was relaxing at home around 11 pm when his elder son, Nikhil, returned in an inebriated condition. Hariom confronted Nikhil about his drinking, which quickly escalated into an argument. The discussion soon veered towards a contentious property matter, reigniting old tensions between the father and son.
Meenakshi, Hariom's wife and Nikhil's mother, recounted the terrifying moments in her complaint. She stated that as the argument intensified, Nikhil, in a fit of rage, pulled out a pistol and began firing at his father. Hearing the gunshots, she rushed to the scene only to witness Nikhil firing multiple bullets at Hariom, hitting him in the head and stomach. Hariom collapsed instantly, and Nikhil fled the scene immediately after.
Relatives and neighbors were alerted, and Hariom was swiftly rushed to a nearby private hospital. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival, succumbing to his grievous injuries. The immense value of the disputed property has added another layer of shock to the incident. A relative, Jaiprakash, revealed that Hariom owned 75 bighas of land, some located near the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, and three shops in the Modinagar market, collectively valued at over Rs 150 crore.
It was further disclosed that Hariom had years ago divided his assets into three shares, one each for his sons Nikhil and Nishu, and the third for himself and his wife. However, the legal documentation for this division had not been finalized. Nikhil had reportedly been pressuring his father to expedite the paperwork for his share, a likely point of contention that tragically culminated in Hariom's murder. Police have registered a murder case against Nikhil and have launched a manhunt to apprehend him.
