Army Jawan Killed as TRASHI-I Operation Intensifies in Kishtwar
An anti-terror operation in Kishtwar escalates after a jawan's death, with multiple injuries and heavy security reinforcements across the area.
An army havildar was killed during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, as Operation TRASHI-I stretched into its second day. The fallen soldier, Havildar Gajendra Singh of the Special Forces, made the supreme sacrifice while gallantly executing a counter-terrorism operation in the Singpora area during TRASHI-I on the night of 19 Jan 2026. The GOC, White Knight Corps, and all ranks paid solemn tribute to him as the operation continued in the general area of Son Nar, northeast of Chhatroo in Kishtwar.
Earlier in the day, the security operation had already left several jawans injured after an exchange of fire in Singpora, prompting a tightening of security around the district. Security forces, including the army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF, remain deployed, with the area cordoned off and searches ongoing. The operation began after information about terrorists' presence in the Chatroo region, and reinforcements, including drones and helicopters, have been deployed to neutralize the threat.
This marks the third encounter in the Jammu region this year, with authorities intensifying efforts ahead of Republic Day. The security grid has been stepped up to prevent any escape by terrorists, while operation TRASHI-I continues in the Son Nar belt near Chhatroo.
Security officials stressed the importance of preventing civilian harm, and search teams continue to comb the forests using drones and sniffer dogs. The situation remains fluid as troops push to wrap up the operation while ensuring no terrorists are left in the area.
