Jeremy Strong, acclaimed for his role in "Succession," is stepping into the shoes of Meta CEO and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg for Aaron Sorkin's highly anticipated film, "The Social Reckoning." This follow-up to the Oscar-nominated "The Social Network" is set to premiere on October 9 and sees Strong taking over the iconic role from Jesse Eisenberg.
Strong, 47, revealed the extent of his intense preparation in a new GQ profile interview. He even reached out directly to the tech billionaire.
"I'm probably going to give Sony an aneurysm - I sent him an email," Strong disclosed, adding,
Just to say that I take this responsibility very seriously, and the veracity of it seriously, and I'm approaching it with respect.
While Zuckerberg did reply, Strong chose not to share the contents of that response.
His meticulous deep dive into understanding Zuckerberg included immersing himself in countless interviews and summit presentations. Strong even watched footage of Zuckerberg's numerous testimonies before Congress, addressing critical issues like data privacy breaches, the spread of misinformation, antitrust laws, and child safety on social media platforms, "until my eyes fell out of my head." The award-winning actor emphatically stated, "I wanted to play Mark Zuckerberg."
"The Social Reckoning" is envisioned as a companion piece to the 2010 critically acclaimed film "The Social Network," which chronicled Facebook's early days. This time, Aaron Sorkin, who penned the original, also takes the director's seat.
Interestingly, Sorkin initially spent days attempting to persuade Jesse Eisenberg to reprise his role, but Eisenberg ultimately declined.
