Amazon Unleashes New Alexa Tablets with Android & Google Play!
Amazon's next-gen Alexa tablets are here! Experience Android, full Google Play Store access, and the power of Alexa+. Explore the 12 Pro, 11, and 8 models.
Amazon has officially unveiled a groundbreaking new lineup of Alexa tablets, featuring a significant shift: personalized intelligence from its Alexa+ AI assistant and, for the first time, full access to the Google Play Store.
The new series includes three distinct models: the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Amazon Alexa Tablet 11, and Amazon Alexa Tablet 8. These devices mark a new direction for Amazon's tablet offerings, moving away from its traditional Fire OS. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that these are an entirely new product line with fresh hardware and an Android-based operating system, rather than just a rebrand of existing Fire Tablets.
This strategic move aims to broaden their appeal and reach a wider audience, allowing users to download millions of apps, including popular choices like YouTube, Netflix, and Gmail, right from launch.
The flagship Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is engineered for “perfect balance” and measures a mere 6.5 mm thick. It boasts a stunning 12-inch, 280 PPI display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio, optimized for reading, watching, or working.
Users can choose between a standard display or a Nanomatte anti-glare option.
Amazon claims the 12 Pro delivers nearly three times the processing performance and nine times the graphics performance of any previous Amazon tablet, making it capable of handling multi-window multitasking, graphics-intensive gaming, and 4K streaming with ease. It also features Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and an impressive 16 hours of video playback.
To transform it into a full workstation, Amazon is also launching the Alexa Tablet Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard. The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $499.99, with the Nanomatte model priced at $549.99, available in Graphite.
All new tablets integrate built-in access to Alexa+. Users can activate the AI assistant by saying “Alexa” or tapping the “Ask Alexa” button to get answers, control smart home devices, and utilize On-Screen Intelligence. This innovative feature allows users to ask Alexa for contextual help based on what's currently displayed on the screen, for instance, asking for hiking recommendations while browsing a list of trails.
The Alexa Tablet 11 offers an 11-inch 2.5K display with 276 pixels per inch, 90Hz smooth scrolling, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Designed for streaming, gaming, reading, and browsing, it provides 15 hours of video playback and dual Dolby Atmos speakers.
This model starts at $329.99 and comes in Graphite, Amethyst, and Matcha.
The most portable of the trio, the Alexa Tablet 8, features an 8.7-inch display within an all-aluminum design, weighing just 329 grams. It's crafted for on-the-go reading, browsing, and streaming, designed to be comfortably held in one hand. The Alexa Tablet 8 starts at $229.99 and is available in Graphite, Rosette, and Teal.
All new Alexa tablets will enhance the reading experience with a new Kindle app. When opened, notifications are silenced, blue light is reduced, and battery life can extend up to 20 hours.
Alongside the Alexa tablets, Amazon also announced new Amazon Kids Tablets, available in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes.
These bundles include a tablet, a kid-proof case, and a year of Amazon Kids+, offering access to thousands of ad-free, kid-friendly books, games, videos, and apps.
Separate versions cater to pre-K kids (ages 3+), featuring soft bumper cases with popular franchises like Paw Patrol and Barbie, and kids 6+, who receive slim hard cases with a built-in kickstand.
The Amazon Alexa Tablets and the Amazon Kids Tablets are set to go on sale on October 14, 2026, in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, followed by a launch in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
