Eight Dead After Car Blast Near Delhi's Red Fort, High Alert Declared
A powerful car blast near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi leaves eight dead and several injured, triggering a city-wide security alert.
A powerful blast tore through a car parked near Gate No. 1 of the Lal Quila Metro Station, close to the Red Fort in Delhi, killing eight people and injuring several others. The explosion also set multiple nearby vehicles on fire and shattered windows in vehicles parked at a distance.
Seven fire tenders were rushed to the scene as police cordoned off the area and authorities issued a high alert across the city. Delhi Metro services were reported to be running normally overall, while security measures were stepped up at various entry points and surrounding areas.
Eyewitnesses described a loud bang and widespread panic as flames swept through the stretch near the busy market and tourist corridor. An auto rickshaw driver who was injured said he could not confirm whether a bomb caused the blast, and forensic teams were deployed to collect samples from the site.
The blast prompted security agencies to issue alerts across several states, with Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand placing security on heightened alert as investigators work to determine the cause. Officials stressed that the exact nature of the blast was not yet clear and that inquiries are ongoing to establish whether it was a terrorist act or something else.
As the city reels from the incident, authorities urged residents and visitors to stay away from the area as investigations continue and safety checks are intensified across transport hubs and crowded venues.
