Noida Jewar Airport opens; new expressway links boost airport access
As Noida's Jewar airport opens, a 31-km link road and key interchanges promise smoother NCR access, with completion targeted by 2027.
Noida International Airport will open on March 28, with the government rolling out a suite of new roads to connect the facility with the national capital region. A 31-kilometre link road under the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway corridor will connect the airport to the Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh-Sohna stretch, with the project being developed by NHAI at a revised cost of Rs 3,631 crore. The seven-kilometre Noida section of this link is already complete and ties into the Yamuna Expressway, ensuring direct access to the airport. The Haryana portion of the route is expected to be ready by 2027.
Plans to ease traffic further include a cloverleaf interchange between the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway near Jaganpur-Afzalpur, a project conceived in 2019 but delayed by land disputes, farmer protests, and rising costs. That interchange is now slated for completion by June 2027, promising smoother transitions for travelers coming from Palwal, Panipat, Meerut, and Greater Noida to reach the airport.
In Noida itself, authorities are building additional infrastructure to decongest major corridors. A 1.4-kilometre elevated road will link the Mahamaya Flyover to the Yamuna Pushta road from Sector 94, designed to ease traffic on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Separately, a 5.7-kilometre Chilla Elevated Road will run parallel to major routes, intended to improve connectivity to the airport and surrounding districts.
On inauguration day, traffic management is planned as PM Modi is set to attend the ceremony; authorities have announced curbs and diversions around Jewar and adjacent routes to accommodate security and ceremonial proceedings.
Together, these projects position the Noida Jewar Airport as a major hub for the NCR and western UP, easing travel for commuters from Delhi, Palwal, Panipat, Meerut, and beyond, and laying the groundwork for future high-speed rail links that could further shorten travel times.
