Post-mortem confirms poisoning as the cause; police seize phones, investigate family pressures and pre-wedding arrangements in Jodhpur.
The post-mortem report for Shobha (25) and Vimla (23) has confirmed poisoning as the cause of death at Manai village, Jodhpur, on Friday morning. The two sisters, who worked at a private school, were set to be married on Saturday, with wedding preparations underway the night before.
Viscera samples have been preserved and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to identify the exact substance consumed, while investigators are also examining the possibility of a drug overdose. No poisonous substance was recovered at the scene. Police have seized the sisters’ mobile phones to review chats, call records and social media activity as part of the inquiry.
Investigators are probing whether the deaths resulted from suicide or other factors such as family disputes or external pressure. The father, Deep Singh, has been questioned to determine the nature of the tragedy. The sisters were previously engaged to men from Bhinmal through their maternal uncle; that alliance was reportedly called off by the father under pressure from the uncle. A new match with two cousins in Jaimla village near Pokaran had been arranged, but the sisters were said to be unhappy with this arrangement.
Following the incident, the families of the grooms, who had completed all wedding preparations, immediately sought new matches in light of the tragedy.
