Morrissey's Vegas Residency Scrapped Last Minute: "Unforeseen Challenges" Cited
Morrissey's highly anticipated Las Vegas residency has been cancelled just one week before its launch. Learn why the former Smiths frontman pulled out and his history of last-minute show cancellations.
Morrissey has once again left fans and organizers scrambling, as his much-anticipated Las Vegas residency was abruptly cancelled just a week before its scheduled commencement. The former Smiths frontman was set to perform a four-night series of shows at the luxurious Wynn Las Vegas, with the first concert originally slated for next Friday, August 14th.
The news broke after the dates mysteriously vanished from the Wynn’s official website. Morrissey’s management subsequently confirmed the cancellation, citing “unforeseen logistical challenges” as the reason for the sudden change of plans. This latest cancellation adds another chapter to Morrissey’s well-documented history of axing and postponing live performances.
Indeed, this year alone has seen several such incidents. In March, he called off a show in Valencia, Spain, notoriously attributing it to “sleep deprivation,” a reason that even prompted a witty retort from the Spanish embassy in the UK. Other cancelled dates include stops in St. Petersburg, Florida, San Diego, St. Louis, and Atlanta, with the latter also blamed on “artist illness.” He also postponed a California show following an “adverse reaction to a prescription medication.”
Despite these setbacks, Morrissey is still scheduled to return to the UK for five arena shows in December, with performances planned for Brighton, Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Leeds. In other recent news, Morrissey publicly criticized the BBC last month for not playing his single ‘Notre-Dame,’ despite its climb to Number Six on the Official Singles Sales Chart. He also reignited his long-standing feud with former bandmate Johnny Marr, accusing him of creating “factions” among the group’s audience over an upcoming BBC documentary.
Adding a touch of nostalgia to the recent headlines, a collection of previously unseen letters penned by Morrissey during his teenage years, in which he boldly predicted his future as a “rock ’n’ roll star,” is reportedly heading to auction.
