These soaring temperatures are a direct consequence of burning fossil fuels, pushing global temperatures higher and unleashing more intense and prolonged heat waves around the world. Samantha Burgess, strategic lead for climate at the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, emphasized the severity of the situation.
