Yusuf Pathan Visits Migrant Labourer’s Family in Beldanga
TMC MP Yusuf Pathan meets the family of Alauddin Sheikh in Beldanga, pledging support after a migrant worker’s death sparked tensions and urging action for migrant workers.
Kolkata-based TMC MP from Murshidabad, Yusuf Pathan, visited the residence of a migrant labourer from Beldanga whose death in Jharkhand earlier this week triggered mob violence in the town. He met the parents of 30-year-old Alauddin Sheikh, whose body was found hanging at his shelter in Jharkhand and brought to his native village in Beldanga on Friday.
Pathan said he strongly deplores the harassment and attacks on Bengali-speaking migrant workers who travel outside the state in search of livelihoods. He added that the party leadership, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, is taking up the issue with the administrations of the relevant states and providing support to the victim families.
Addressing critics who alleged he had not visited families of migrant workers who faced harassment in other states, Pathan dismissed the charge as propaganda and said he has been monitoring every case with feedback from the party leadership.
Abhishek Banerjee had announced that Pathan would visit the family and had raised the matter with Jharkhand's Chief Minister's Office seeking a probe into the incident and action against those responsible for the migrants' deaths.
The district administration has set up helpline numbers for migrant workers outside Bengal and urged those facing trouble to contact authorities, underscoring the government's attempt to provide concrete support amid the ongoing concern over migrant worker safety.
