In Lincoln County, a mobile home park in the community of Bogue Chitto was heavily damaged, with residents describing a sudden, violent shift from a routine storm to a destructive gust of wind.
The National Weather Service said a very large and dangerous tornado moved from eastern Lincoln County into Lawrence County, as Governor Tate Reeves stated that multiple tornadoes were reported statewide and the state Emergency Management Agency coordinated the response.
There were no immediate reports of deaths; several people were injured, mostly with minor injuries, and crews worked to clear roads and assess homes.
Weather officials warned that more storms could sweep across Alabama, Georgia and Florida, with continued risk of tornadoes in parts of the Carolinas and Texas, prompting ongoing warnings and cleanup efforts.
Authorities urged residents to stay away from damaged areas to let responders work and to monitor updates from weather services.
