97% Turnout in Wayanad Home Voting Ahead of Kerala Assembly Polls

Preparations for the upcoming Kerala Assembly polls in Wayanad are in full swing after home voting for senior citizens and differently abled persons concluded on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Officials reported an impressive turnout, with over 97% of eligible voters in the district casting their ballots from home. Out of 4,438 voters, 4,317 opted for home voting, underscoring strong civic participation. In the Mananthavady constituency, 1,445 of the total 1,484 voters cast their home ballots. In Kalpetta, 1,339 of 1,370 home voters exercised their franchise, and in Sultan Bathery, 1,533 of 1,584 home voters participated. Special care was taken to ensure voter privacy and the secrecy of the ballot during the home voting process, with ballots sealed and transported to designated centres after polling.

Meanwhile, commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and related units for the district’s polling needs has been completed. For the 715 polling stations in the district, 20% reserve voting machines and 30% reserve VVPAT units have been commissioned and kept ready for use. In Kalpetta, the constituency has 227 booths, 272 ballot and control units, and 295 VVPAT units commissioned. Mananthavady has 251 booths, 301 ballot and control units, and 326 VVPAT units. Sultan Bathery features 237 booths, 284 ballot and control units, and 308 VVPAT units. The commissioning was carried out at St. Patrick’s High School in Mananthavady, SKMJ High School in Kalpetta, and St. Mary’s College in Sultan Bathery, with procedures completed under supervision of election officials.

These steps reflect a concerted effort to ensure a smooth, secure, and transparent voting process as the district readies for the main polling day.
