Nick Reiner, 32, pleads not guilty in the December killings of his parents in the Brentwood home, facing two counts of murder and potential life in prison.
Nick Reiner, 32, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Monday, charged with murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, whose Brentwood home was found with multiple stab wounds in December. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, with a special circumstance alleging multiple murders, and could face life without parole or the death penalty if convicted.
Prosecutors say Reiner fatally stabbed his father and mother inside a bedroom before fleeing. He was arrested in Los Angeles the same day and is being held in custody ahead of trial; his next court appearance is set for April 29.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were known for their work in film and photography. The couple’s children, Jake and Romy, said in a statement after their deaths that they were experiencing "unimaginable pain" following the "horrific and devastating loss." The director is known for films including This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally and Stand By Me, while Michele Singer Reiner was an actress, photographer and producer and founder of Reiner Light.
Arraignment had been postponed earlier after his attorney withdrew; his new lawyer, Kimberly Gre, will represent him. The case continues to unfold, with prosecutors detailing the death scene and the timeline of events leading up to his arrest. The next scheduled hearing is April 29.
