India to Fully Restore Visa Services in Bangladesh as Ties Normalize

Days after Tarique Rahman’s government took charge in Bangladesh, India announced plans to resume all visa services in the country, according to a senior consular official. Medical and double-entry visas are already being issued, with steps under way to restore other categories, including travel visas.
Aniruddha Das, India's senior consular official in Sylhet, made the remarks at the Sylhet District Press Club, stressing the goal of fully restoring all visa services. He noted that the Indian assistant high commission in Sylhet would extend maximum cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties through visa facilitation, grounded in a foundation of mutual respect and honour.
The push to resume services comes after a period of strains in the relationship, which had seen visa operations suspended as tensions escalated following the death of a student leader and subsequent protests. Bangladesh had also restricted visa issuance for Indian nationals earlier, expanding curbs to missions in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.
Observers view the move as a signal of a thaw in India-Bangladesh relations, though officials stay mindful of security and political dynamics that continue to shape exchanges. With visa services expanding, travelers, students and business people may soon experience easier access to travel and medical visas in the near term.
