Nancy McKeon turning sixty really makes me think about how her casting as Jo Polniaczek on 'The Facts of Life' was the most pivotal moment in 80s sitcom history. Can you even imagine that show without her grit and leather jacket? It is wild to think that other talented actresses like Kari Michaelson were right there in the final running. While Kari is amazing and clearly has a heart of gold for staying friends with Nancy all these years, I just do not think anyone else could have captured that specific 'tough girl with a heart' vibe that Nancy perfected. It changed the whole dynamic of the Eastland Academy crew. It is rare to see two people compete for a career-defining role and remain close friends.
