Seeing Rue finally succumb to a fentanyl overdose: given by someone she trusted, no less: felt like a slap in the face to anyone who’s been rooting for her recovery journey for years. I understand the writers want to highlight the terrifying reality of how fentanyl is stealing second chances from young people, but the way it played out felt more like misery porn than a meaningful ending. That dream sequence with Fezco and the old footage was beautiful, but it just made the actual 'quiet' death on Ali’s couch feel even more hollow.
