I am deeply disturbed by the growing trend of psychiatrists administering lethal injections to patients whose primary affliction is mental suffering. Recently, there have been cases, most notably a psychiatrist in the Netherlands, where even teenagers with severe depression or trauma are being euthanized. Where do we draw the line? Mental illness is inherently treatable and heavily influenced by temporary circumstances, brain chemistry, or emotional states that can change over time. By offering death as a medical solution to psychiatric distress, we are fundamentally abandoning our duty of care. Are we really calling a doctor who ends a severely depressed teenager's life a hero of compassion?
