It’s wild how many grew up in homes where chaos, emotional neglect, or high-control environments were just "normal." You don't realize until you're an adult struggling with chronic anxiety, people-pleasing, or trust issues that your "fine" childhood was actually deeply dysfunctional. We normalize these experiences because we had no point of comparison as kids. We thought every parent had a short fuse or used guilt as a tool.
Recognizing family-of-origin trauma isn't about being a victim or hating your family; it’s about finally connecting the dots between your past and your present mental health. Until you name the trauma, you can't actually heal from it.
