It is deeply concerning that 51 anganwadis in Ernakulam are operating without fitness certificates months after the academic year began. Bureaucratic hurdles, like the non-availability of assistant engineers due to administrative transfers, shouldn't compromise child safety. The recent incident in Karumaloor where a live cobra was found inside an anganwadi almirah is a terrifying wake-up call! It highlights massive infrastructural flaws. Unsafe surroundings and missing window panes are entirely unacceptable. Furthermore, the fact that over 600 anganwadis lack their own buildings and struggle to find safe rentals because of a flawed uniform rent policy for both rural and urban areas like Kochi Corporation makes the situation much worse. We need flexible funding and immediate safety audits.
