Imagine trying to catch a 6 a.m. flight and ending up in a four-hour interrogation because of your grooming habits. This actually happened at an airport in Australia! A guy was detained because security thought his laser hair removal device was an explosive device. I get that security is tight for a reason, but four hours? It’s wild how easily a personal care gadget can trigger a full-on bomb scare these days. It makes you wonder if the tech used for screening is actually helping or just causing unnecessary panic. On one hand, you want them to be thorough, but on the other, how do you mistake a beauty tool for a bomb? Better safe than sorry though? If it looks like a trigger or has weird wiring, they have to check it. Security's job is literally to be paranoid. #travel

4 hours is total overkill. They have high-tech scanners and experts on site. Once they see it is a hair remover, let the man go. This is why airport travel is such a nightmare now. 🙄 #travel

The X-ray machines probably flagged the high-capacity battery and the internal circuitry. To a screener at 6 AM, that looks exactly like IED components. It is a technical limitation of the hardware. #travel

It is the lack of common sense for me. If he is cooperating and the device is a brand-name beauty product, why the heavy-handed interrogation? Just scan the serial number and move on.

I am with the airport on this. Better to have a 4-hour delay than a tragedy. Those DIY laser kits can look suspicious if you are not familiar with them.
