The constant harassment of our fishermen from Rameswaram by the Sri Lankan Navy needs to stop right now! Seven more men were just arrested while out on their boat, falsely accused of poaching in international waters and crossing the IMBL. Their families are out on the streets protesting in Thangachimadam, and rightly so: they insist they never crossed the boundary! That brings the total up to 61 arrested fishermen from Ramanathapuram district alone since the fishing ban ended. How can these coastal communities survive when they live in constant fear of losing their livelihoods or being thrown in a foreign jail? The Chief Minister has written to the External Affairs Minister demanding immediate diplomatic intervention, but honestly, we are all sick of the empty promises from both the State and Union governments.
