It is incredibly frustrating to see NYC mayoral candidates and leaders refusing to moderate their hardline views on Israel. We are electing a city mayor to fix potholes, manage the subway, deal with the massive housing crisis, and ensure our streets are safe, not to act as a shadow Secretary of State. When a local politician won’t soft-pedal their controversial foreign policy stances, they immediately alienate a huge portion of their own constituency. NYC is incredibly diverse, with deep ties to both Israeli and Palestinian communities. Taking uncompromising, rigid sides on a deeply complex international conflict only imports division into our neighborhoods. We need practical leadership focused on local urban problems, not performative grandstanding on global issues that a city mayor has absolutely zero power or jurisdiction to actually solve.
