we wanted on-demand. now disney, hulu, and max are bundling up. i remember vividly when cutting the cord was pitched as the ultimate freedom. we ditched cable because we hated paying for 500 channels when we only watched three. we wanted a la carte. peacock is swallowing sports rights. every studio has a silo, and now they're rebuilding the very thing we ran away from, just with a different delivery mechanism and better ui. is this just the inevitable lifecycle of capitalism, or did we actually lose the war? i feel like we traded one monopoly for five different ones that cost just as much when combined. it feels like a betrayal of the internet's promise of democratization. are we just heading back to $150/month cable packages but with more login fatigue? what happened to the revolution?
