We are witnessing the 'McDonaldization' of memes. Ten years ago, internet culture felt like a series of walled gardens; memes were secret handshakes that required deep, local, or subcultural context to understand. Today, the algorithmic imperative for virality demands that content must be immediately understood by a teenager in Ohio, a salaryman in Tokyo, and a student in Berlin.
Consequently, the true 'inside joke' is being eradicated. We are seeing a shift from 'community-building' humor (high context) to 'broadcast' humor (zero context). When you strip away the nuance to please the algorithm, you lose the cultural soul.
We aren't sharing culture anymore; we are just sharing generic dopamine triggers in a universal, beige wrapper.
