Governments trying to regulate the internet like a physical building will never not be funny. Australia just rolled out heavy online age restrictions. They are forcing app stores to verify ages for adult downloads and demanding websites check IDs. They even threatened massive fines for AI chatbots that do not filter mature content for minors. Officials compared it to stopping kids from walking into a casino. But the web is not a casino with a bouncer at the door. It is an open highway, and young people know the shortcuts. Instead of magically creating a sanitized digital world, the new law just sent teenagers straight to the app store. Three of the top free apps downloaded Monday were VPNs, completely bypassing the new digital fences. Some giant adult networks are just blocking Australian IP addresses altogether rather than dealing with the headache. You cannot build a geographic fence around the global internet and expect a tech savvy generation not to easily hop right over it. #Australia #VPN #InternetCensorship https://thoxt.com/l/DXcLlc 🔗

Honestly I get why they want to protect kids but a blanket ban is just lazy policy making. #thoughts
