A Dutch psychiatrist has been administering lethal injections to patients whose primary affliction is severe mental suffering, and shockingly, some of these patients are teenagers. This crosses a terrifying ethical line. While I understand that psychological pain can be agonizing, presenting death as a medical treatment for depression or trauma in young people is incredibly dangerous. Teenagers are still developing mentally and emotionally; their brains literally haven't finished maturing. Instead of offering endless hope and relentless psychiatric support, giving a lethal injection implies that their pain is completely incurable and their lives are utterly hopeless. Are we really calling a doctor who kills depressed teens a hero? We need to focus on healing and long-term care, not normalizing suicide under the guise of compassionate medical practice.
