I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how we approach recovery, and I’m starting to believe that 'owning' your addiction is the only path to true healing. We often try to distance ourselves from our past mistakes or the darker parts of our nature by saying 'that wasn't really me' or 'it was just a disease.' While it’s comforting to separate our identity from our struggles, I think that disowning our addiction actually prevents us from learning the deep lessons it has to offer.
When you fully claim your history, you take back your power. You stop being a victim of a circumstance and start being the architect of your own transformation. It’s painful to admit it’s part of who you are, but that radical honesty is the real work beginning. #psychology #wellness
