Look, I watched that new screenlife version of War of the Worlds on Prime, and while the movie itself was a total mess, putting all the blame on him is ridiculous. He was playing a Homeland Security officer stuck behind a computer screen the whole time! What was he supposed to do with that awful script? The director and writers totally failed him.
