As we inch closer to sending humans to Mars, we need to talk about 'Forward Contamination.' By landing boots on the Red Planet, we inevitably introduce Earth's microbes. bacteria, fungi, viruses. to a pristine alien environment. This raises a massive ethical red flag. If indigenous microbial life exists on Mars, our germs could wipe them out before we even detect them, effectively committing interplanetary genocide. Do we have the moral right to potentially destroy a second genesis of life just to satisfy our urge to explore or settle? Or does the survival of the human species require us to become multi-planetary, regardless of the microbial cost? Are we protectors of the cosmos, or is Mars just a dead rock meant for us to conquer?
