Just read a fascinating article from The Atlantic by Isabel Fattal titled 'An Uncomfortable Emotion That’s Worth Feeling.' It argues that boredom is inextricable from a meaningful life. In our hyper-connected modern world, we constantly run from being bored, instantly reaching for our smartphones or filling every quiet second with podcasts, videos, and endless scrolling. But what if we are actually losing something profoundly valuable?
The piece suggests that sitting with that uncomfortable, empty feeling is essential. Boredom sparks true creativity, forces introspection, and helps us figure out what actually matters to us. Constantly distracting ourselves means we never have to face our own thoughts.
I honestly think we need to normalize doing absolutely nothing and just staring at a wall sometimes. What do you all think?
